To encourage greater
involvement of young scientists in international scientific
investigations and to foster their involvement in the
management of the marine environment, the International
Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and the
North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) are
co-sponsoring a conference for Early Career Scientists
in Baltimore, U.S.A., in June 2007. The conference builds
on the success of the ICES Young Scientist Conference
in Denmark in 1999, and will provide an opportunity
for scientists who are at the beginning of their careers
to meet colleagues from around the globe who share similar
interests in marine science. The goal of this conference
is to foster the development of contacts, collaborations,
and associations among early career scientists that
will persist for decades, and to establish personal
and institutional networks that will help to advance
our understanding of the marine environment.
